Thank you to everyone who came to our second fundraiser.  Our evening began with CBS 2/ KCAL 9 News covering our story.  Michelle Mangione started the evening off with a song called, I Know How It Feels and later in the evening she premiered the What is a Saint video.  We had a successful evening in spreading the word.  Thank you to everyone who has donated an instrument, cash, or simply showed their support.  We appreciate your love and generosity.

Our music department at Mayfair High/Middle School is still in need of new or used instruments and monetary donations.  We will continue our efforts until every student has the opportunity to pick up an instrument and no student is turned away.

Help Save the Music Fundraiser 1

Michelle Mangione, Angla Riggio, Steve Soest, Jesse Soest

Paul, Eddie, and Anthony (Mayfair Graduates)

Thank you to those who made it out to The Mirage Coffeehouse for a great night of entertainment.  I also want to thank Michelle Mangione, Angela Riggio, Steve Soest, Paula Soest and Jesse Soest for putting on an outstanding show and for Linda Montgomery's comic relief.

Mayfair High/Middle School is extremely grateful for all the help we have received so far.  Donations varied from new and used instruments, cash donations to sponsorships (instrumental rental costs).

We still have a long way to go.  If you were unable to make it this time, please put October 2, 2009 on your calendar (8:00pm - 10:00pm) at The Mirage Coffeehouse (539 E. Bixby Road) .  We will have student performances along with Michelle Mangione and her band.  Students at Mayfair still need our help.  No student should be turned away from picking up an instrument.
HELP SAVE THE MUSIC
As many of you know, music programs in our schools are being discontinued due to budget cuts. Long Beach residents, Dodie Carmichael and singer/songwriter Michelle Mangione have partnered up to help save the music. Carmichael, who teaches at Mayfair Middle School in Bellflower, says “that many of the students at Mayfair have a desire to play a musical instrument, but the school fears they soon will have to turn away students because they cannot afford to purchase or rent one.” When Mangione, who is a professional musician, heard about the situation, she just had to help.

On Saturday, September 19, 2009 they will kick-off their efforts to help the school by collecting instruments and monetary donations at the Mirage Coffeehouse, 539 E. Bixby Rd., Long Beach, 90807 from 7:30 pm -10:00pm. This event is in conjunction with Mangione’s Monthly Songwriters Showcase which gives local musicians the opportunity to showcase their talents and try new music they have been working on. If you have an instrument that you would be willing to donate, please bring it to the Mirage this Saturday where a student or teacher will be more than willing to take it off your hands.

There is a $6.00 suggested donation at the door which goes to pay the performers.
